Upon release, d’Arenberg’s Vintage Fortified Shiraz, traditionally just known as “Vintage Port", has a consistent deep, intense purple almost black colour matched by just as intense aromas of ripe, spicy shiraz fruit, combined with a lifted (and slightly ‘taily’) brandy spirit. Spicy blackberry, mulberry, plum and blackcurrant fruit smells are also evident on the structured young palate.

The flavours are ripe; red fruits, cherries, plums and black olives with edges of dried garden herbs. As the wine opens the palate is extremely tight and controlled. In many ways this wine is more elegant than previous vintages with tannins that have a wonderful mineral grittiness that is balanced right to the wine’s pointed finish. This wine has a deep, dark, vibrant black appearance suggesting a full-bodied dry red. The aroma is dense and complex with a mix of fragrant fruit dominated by cassis, blackcurrants, mulberries, coffee, toffee and dark chocolate with fine cedar oak developing in the background. The palate shows a lighter, fresher, more elegant style of wine compared to recent vintages but is overwhelmingly complex and compressed. Young primary flavours of dark black fruits, violets, cassis and red currants mixed with edges of dried herbs, green bean and capsicum dominate. As the wine opens up an abundant mix of violets, earthy notes and mulberries appear over dark fruits with really tight flowery tannins and minerals that fan out on the finish. 		Case Only

Very clear appearance with a lovely perfumed aroma of ripe passionfruit and guava skins and sweet scented tropical fruits with a background of dried herbs, cut grass and passionfruit skins. The palate is very elegant; fruity and dry with plenty of richness and concentration due partially to a small amount of barrel fermentation which really impacts the richness to the mouthfeel of the wine. Flavours are dominated with notes of dried blackcurrant leaves, tropical fruits, green melon rind and gooseberry balanced with fine elevated acidity that keeps the wine in check. Lingering flavours are a mix of tropical fruits, guavas and gooseberries with passionfruit and dried herb/mineral notes.
